I've had a quick look at the problem. The attached patch to CLN seems to
fix your problem and not cause any regressions on either CLN or GiNaC.
Please feel free to test it.

I am, however, not ready to commit it yet. I first need to find an
answer to a question I am having with regard to this kind of conversions.
